About 2 months ago I developed a rash on my arm by my elbow the day after a hike. The rash wasn’t itchy or sore, it was just a lot of little red bumps. I went to the dr and he did a biopsy. The results showed it was an allergic reaction to some kind of a tick bite (And I do remember seeing a small black dot on my arm and flicking it off…dont know if it was a tick or not). He gave me some cream and that did not work at all, then he gave me allegra which also did not work. As time went on the rash went away but spread to other parts of my body (my forehead, jawbone, other elbow, chest, back) Again the rash was not too itchy or sore just a bunch of little red bumps. So I went to see him again, he did another biopsy from my face to make sure it wasn’t acne and again it showed an allergic reaction to a tick bite. So now he is going to put me on medication in case if it is lyme disease (which doesn’t make sense to me because none of my symptoms sound like lyme disease)
A couple days ago I was at my friends house (where i stay the night each weekend) and found out she has bed bugs! And has had them for a few months and never told me because I never noticed till that night. I had also been at her house the same day I went on that hike.
Now I am going crazy thinking i brought a bug home and have bed bugs. I have searched my entire house looking for any sign of bed bugs. I have not found any fecal matter, blood stains, or any bugs. I clean my house every night before i go to bed, determined to find a bug and i cant. I am losing sleep over it and its seriously making me paranoid! I tore apart my couch and threw it outside because I found a skeleton of a bug (idk what kind of bug it was from) i found a dead bug in the house, thought it was a bed bug, but turned out to be a rolly polly.
My friend told me its not bed bug bites because my rash does not itch like crazy and does not appear while being at her house. It usually seems to appear out of no where. Sometimes after waking up, sometimes just sitting at the computer, sometimes watching tv, or driving in the car, or even just being at work.
Any one have any idea what it is? I has to be some kind of bug bite if that is what the biopsy has shown twice. Could a bed bug bite be mistaken for a tick bite? Please help me! This is driving me insane. I am tired of sleeping with a flashlight and these rashes are ugly and embarrassing and i just want it to go away!
Thank you for your responses so far. I have been considering everything and anything this could be. I have thought about chiggers since they are similar to ticks, but I do not have any bite marks in the areas chiggers bite.
Since the beginning I have thought it might be my detergent. I switched to gain around the same time the rash appeared. Also, since I have to pay to do my laundry I only wash my clothes about once a month or so. I could be using too much soap. Also, since I thought it could be bed bugs Ive been washing my sheets and clothes like crazy, maybe thats why Im breaking out more now. If it is detergent tho, y does the test say a tick bite? And should I just rewash my clothes with the old kind of detergent I used to use??

- forhead bugs
- rash tick forehead
It MIGHT not be a bug bite at all.
Have you told you doctor about the bed bug thing and that they appear out of no where? If not you should. I remember my friend got this rash and the doctor kept on saying it was a tick bite. Well she had a tick bite but thats not what caused the rash. It ended up that she wasnt washing her clothes good enough and using too much soap. It also could be an allergic reaction to body wash ect.
I hope that helped :}
Yasmine,
The clue in your question is the hike. I am thinking that you have brought chiggers into your house. Their other common name is the harvest mite.
They can be killed with a number of sprays but the one that makes sense to me is called Kleen-Free which is a chemical free psray that you can use on your furniture and mattress and also in your laundry to get rid of them.
The nice thing about this is that the same company makes a bedbug spray that you could encourage yoru friend to order and then split the cost of the order and shipping to save some money.
Their website talks about both of these pests and how to treat them.
Maybe this will be a good solution for you.
Good luck – I am about 99% sure your issue is chiggers.

You might have Turkey mites or something similar. I use to work at Mammoth Cave National Park and I ran into a patch of them while doing a wildflower hike. They typically don’t affect most people but I was one of the unlucky few. I suffered for nearly a week before I went to the doctor and had a few tests run.
