adampdietrich asked:

ok i have just moved out from a place with bed bugs. i know for a fact that they were bedbugs. but i only ever saw full grown adults. so now im in my new apartment.. i have wash all clothes in hot water and my dryer cycle goes on hot for 60 min however in this new places.. which does have alot of silverfish i found a small bug in the bed the other day. i caught it and put it in a jar. however he is only 1.2mm long darker.. more of a brown black ish. has a few very tiny white spots down its back. now the shape of him.. well its more of a beetle i guess. where the head would be a almost half shaped moon.. and than the back would be kinda like a lady bug with the hidden wings. now i havent found him able to fly just. just crawls. and out from the back, there are (what looks like) two clear wings with a schene or a little bit of a opalesence. now i hear that bed bugs dont have wings.. but beleive me.. after living with them, you become very paranoid about whats crawling around your place. i keep on searching carpet beetles but i dunno.. the size i found should have some fur on it or something but i dont see any.. and im using a jewelers loope to look at him. if anyone would have some insite to what bug this might be (hopefully not one of the first stages of a bed bug)

thanks

Gloria Clitoria asked:

so I found a bed bug crawling on the coffee table (I have been sleeping on the couch since last week).. I promptly trapped the little sucker and put it into a bag for proof.
About three weeks ago I started waking up with a couple of bites.. everyone told me that I was paranoid and that they looked like flea bites. I somehow feel a bit relieved that I now know that is in fact bed bugs, and I can take the next step.
We have a yearly lease so we are required to give three months notice. I don’t want to live in the same apartment anymore, and I have the option of staying at my parents’ place until I get a new apartment.
Do I have any rights in terms of getting out of the lease earlier than the three months since there are bed bugs?
The previous tenants had bed bugs as well.
thanks.

Jaymi asked:

Okay I will try to summarize as best I can. I live on the first floor of a three family house. The landlord and his family (6 people total) live upstairs, they occupy the second and third floor. My floor has two bedrooms that a close friend of mine and I shared until March of 2009. I finally had another roommate move in at the end of May. By the end of June I started seeing bug bites on my ankles and legs.

I didn’t think too much of it at first, It would only be two or three of them, and not every night. It was summer, there are mosquitoes and the house I live in is older, strange bugs make appearances from time to time. By the end of July however I noticed more of them, and on the day I woke up w/more than a dozen bites I started researching. Bed Bugs came up in most searches, along w/fleas and chiggers. The other two are easily eliminated so I focused on the bed bugs. I couldn’t however find any sign of them in my room the way that any of the sites I went to said to check for them.

After a week of this I figured I must be overreacting. I went away for the second week of August and the bites pretty much stopped though, so my suspicions arose again, and by the end of that next week after vacation I finally spotted one next to my pillow in the early morning hours. I freaked of course.

I notified my landlord that day who had his wife contact an exterminator immediately. They were unable to come out for a full week but I was just glad something was in the works. When I spoke to my roommate however that night, to ask him if he’d gotten any bug bites lately, his reply was ‘oh yeah, I’d been meaning to ask you about that,’ and went on to say he thought it might be something from my birds. (I have 4 conures, I’m meticulous w/their cages and sweeping/vacuuming of the area they’re in. My oldest one is almost 14 years old and I’ve had them long enough to feel confident I’d recognize something this major w/them.) Needless to say I was a bit insulted but I didn’t want to start anything, I just wanted the problem taken care of.

I assured him it did not come from the birds, and that it was in fact bed bugs. We both started trying to think of where they would have come in. Neither of us have had any visitors from out of town over w/the exception of my mother, who doesn’t have bed bugs and thankfully still doesn’t even after her stay. I went away once but the friends I shared the hotel room with didn’t have them, nor did the hotel as far as I know, since our bags were all in the same place during our stay how could I be the only one to bring them back? My roommate had gone away for a weekend but also to a friend’s house, who doesn’t have bed bugs. It wasn’t until later in the week I realized the bites had started appearing very shortly after my roommate first moved in. He of course said no he didn’t bring them or his last roommates would have called him or something. But he used to talk of how dirty they were and had people over all the time from different areas, some of them shady. I know bed bugs aren’t only around dirty people, it can happen in the cleanest environment, but the way he spoke of them I could believe they’d be of the mindset that they wouldn’t mind living with it.

When the exterminators finally came however they confirmed that the infestation was mainly in his bedroom, the closet in particular was inundated w/them, and my bedroom was only the beginnings of an infestation, the spillover I suppose, since his had grown so large. Even as they stood there in front of my landlord, my roommate and myself and told us this news, he still denied it and blamed it on his brand new futon that came sealed and boxed from Ikea. Now okay sure I know there are stories of people getting them in store bought mattresses that aren’t as new as advertised…but really? I just find it hard to believe in this case. I also still wonder how come he never once asked me about the bites. He HAD to have been getting them long long before I did, and only said he had them when I brought it up to him. If he truly believed they were from me and not him why would he not come say something immediately?

Now for as far as the process getting ready for the spraying, I had double bagged up all my clothes, emptied my drawers, pulled all sheets, blankets, pillow cases, etc… off the bed, pulled the curtains down …all of this in double bags. Vacuumed several times – the whole house (w/the exception of his room, thru all of this that’s all I’ve ever asked him to take care of) Everything was washed and dried on the highest heat settings. My roommate did none of this, he carried his clothes out in open bins and walked it to the laundromat around the corner.

Every three days since the first spraying – which was on September 2nd – I’ve vacuumed the entire house, pulling furniture away from walls and going under and around everything, into couch cushions, using the extension for base boards
Bugs are still not gone, the exterminators are saying it has to be on our end, either we’re bringing them in still or doing our own home remedy, which would void the warranty, coincidentally, and how do you prove you didn’t? Also my roommate has just told me his retail job of 1 and a half months is transferring him…so he’s gone by December 1st. We split the cost of the treatments so far, $500 each…but if it ends up we need a different exterminator I will be stuck paying more…is there any way I can legally have him held responsible for this w/the exterminators being able to confirm the major infestation was in his room and the first time the bites started appearing coinciding w/his moving in?

Today the same employee just brought me a LIVE bed bug (my mother had them 2 years ago so I KNOW it was a bedbugger!) that she just found at her station. There are 3 coworkers that have had bed bugs and one that is still battling getting rid of them. I know for a fact that 3 people had them and the one who is still battling them told me herself because I am her supervisor and she had to call out of work due to the problem. Do we have a serious problem only finding two? Is the coworker that currently still has them bringing them in? What do I tell the other coworkers? Those of us that DONT have them, Can we get them from work and bring them to our own home?

misbehave123 asked:

I’ve just found three bed bugs on my bed tonight while i was cleaning the liners. OMG. i’ve never been so frightened ever in my life, i’m even sweating badly and have goosebumps just thinking of them right now

anyways, yes. i’m definitely clean. i shower everyday, clean liners frequently. but what the? why do they appear on my bed though?

Q1) just because of the fact that i’m really really scared of bugs, i’m even afraid to look at the bed bugs professional webpages…so here’s the only place where i could look for help.
so ummm, for now i’m still unsure if its a bed bug
but uh, how it looked like was that it’s brown color with a hairy back and after i squished one of them…it had ‘WHITE’ juice? rather than ‘blood’?
so that’s what made me unsure if those are bed bugs or not…

Q2) if so, how can get rid of them w/o involving professionals?
could i just pray my bed with lysol and leave it in a open area for a day?
i’m definitely not sleeping it tonight though

WHAT SHOULD I DO? HELP
hey guys, thanks for ALL THE GREAT ADVICES AND COMMENTS! i really feel that i’m not alone anymore in this fight against the ‘bugs’

anyhow, i’ve called two professionals today to ask them if they were REAL ‘bedbugs’ or not cause the one i’ve found had ‘white juice’, instead of ‘blood’when i squeezed n’ killed one of them. Both of them said that they’re ‘Carpet Beatles’… so that’s a relief…

but then again they’re still pests…
what should i do what should i do??

Fresserheim asked:

The bed bug was only known from a nursery rhyme for a long time until the government of Richard Nixon (!) banned DDT.
Incidentally, the science referenced to support that ban was faulty.
It seems DDT was really banned because it was so successful at dealing with mosquitoes in Africa and elsewhere in the 3rd world that
they who push population reduction went to work to have it, DDT, banned. And they got their wish. Millions have died in Africa from malaria and other mosquito-borne illnesses as a consequence of that genocidal decision.
The fact is, the ban was a result of the book SILENT SPRING, which has been discredited in the scientific community.
The author of the above-mentioned book SILENT SPRING was Rachel Carson, whom the Rockefellers paid under the table for her alarmist screed.

uselesshappy asked:

I had lived in my current house for 4+ years and NEVER had bed bugs nor complaints from any of my tenants. I lived in the 2nd floors. Then my 3rd floor tenants moved out. I had the 2nd and 3rd floor completely renovated. I moved up to the 3rd floor. Then 3 months ago, new tenants moved in to the 2nd floor. They come to me now complaining about bed bugs. This is new news to me. They’re blaming the house for having bed bugs that are biting their kids. But never in the years i lived there have i had them. My 1st floor neighbor doesn’t have them, either. So I think they must have brought them in when they moved. They said they never had them too in their last house.

Am I responsible for the bed bugs and for taking care of them as the house owner?
Either way, I have no problem taking care of the problem, but the fact they keep blaming the house, i think is wrong.

“don’t have the temperament to be a landlord.”?
Are you f-ing kidding me? i’ve done EVERYTHING for them. From buying them a new fridge, fixing a so called leaky faucet, etc. There is nothing I haven’t done for these people. I NEVER said I wouldn’t call up the exterms, but wanted to see if it was right of them to put the blame on me.
